Cast the First Stone by David James Warren

Cast the First Stone by David James Warren

Ex-Minneapolis Police Detective Rembrandt Stone walked away from a career he loved—just the price of being sure he can come home to the wife and daughter he cherishes. But he can’t shake the deep regret over a case left behind. When his mentor, the former Chief of Homicide dies and leaves Rembrandt with a box of cold cases and a mysterious watch, he finds himself thrust into a world he recognizes—a world from twenty years ago—the same world he’s woken from in a cold sweat a hundred times. But is it a dream, or some kind of twisted reality?

If he solves the case that plagues him, and justice is finally served, will it destroy the life he loves?

My Review

I love time travel so much and when I heard about Cast the First Stone i couldn’t wait to to read it! It’s a mixture of police detective, adventure, thriller, mystery, time travel with a dash of romance in it. All the things to make you not want to put it down.
Rembrandt Stone was an interesting character that took a bit of time to really like. I liked that he was not perfect but is trying to do his best. I think we will continue to see him change and grow throughout the series. Eve to was fun to get to know. I liked her and she had a lot of spunk. Rembrandt & Eve’s interaction throughout the story created a good foundation for the story and the rest of the series. I could tell he clearly loved and was attracted to her. Each character in the story felt like a real person. I’m still deciding who is my favorite person.

I generally don’t read police mysteries as crimes tends to be a bit detailed. I appreciated that this story didn’t really focus on that but was more about solving the crime. The ending left you wishing you could read book two immediately.

I listened to a little bit of the audio version. It was well done and added an extra depth to the story.

Cast the First Stone was a fascinating book and I can’t wait to read book two.

I recommend this book to my family and friends.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. I also purchased a copy for myself. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
