The Valentine Verse by JoAnn Durgin

About the Book

“My Soul rejoices in the hope of meeting the other half. Will today be the day?”

the_valentine_verseValentineโ€™s Day isnโ€™t just for February 14th anymore! Love should be celebratedย everyย day of the year. Thatโ€™s Thornton Fieldingโ€™s philosophy. In spite of a few false starts in the arena of love, he holds out hope heโ€™ll eventually find the woman of his dreams. The problem? He loves his job, and thereโ€™s no end in sight to his travels. But when Thornton returns to his tiny hometown of Cherish, Minnesota, he meets a beautiful and intriguing woman he believes might be Godโ€™s answer to ending his bachelor statusโ€”permanently.ย Vara Alexandris is soured on love and scoffs at the notion of soul mates. But soon after meeting the handsome and unconventional Thornton, the speech and language pathologist suspects he might be the perfect ally to help jump-start her stroke patientโ€™s recoveryโ€”if only Vara can keep Thornton grounded in Cherish long enough. This man who spouts romanticized and idealistic ideas about love seems all too eager to resume his world travels. Could it be Thornton actually prefers globetrotting in order toย avoidย a romantic relationship? Is it time for Vara to call the dreamerโ€™s bluff? And can Thornton convince Vara to put past heartache behind her and trust in Godโ€™s plan for her heart?

My Review:

I thought this book was pretty good. It was a cute love story. It was fun to get to know Vara and Thornton. There is a very strong scripture message of hope and forgiveness in Jesus. Its such an important truth to share. I think there are important truth’s and a gospel message thatย  the characters and the reader can learn. I found that as the story continued, almost every conversation was something spiritual or about the gospel message. It started to sound more like preachingย then the natural flow of conversation which took away from the story plot.ย  It made it a little harder to relate to the characters. I think this is a good story with great potential. I am interested in reading other books by JoAnn Durgin.

I recommend this book to family and friends.

I received this book from the publisher to read and give my honest opinion.

  2. This does sound like a wonderfully romantic book not sappy, but could be real, yet you are already yearning for them to fall in love and for her to lasso him into Cherish to stay and not be away.

    1. Thank you for your comment, Rosie! I like to believe Thornton and Vara’s story is quite romantic. I enjoy writing scenes with light banter and a little teasing that lead up to a sigh-inducing kiss. ๐Ÿ™‚ Funny you should mention the word “lasso” since I’m finishing up a book now about a West Texas rancher. It made me smile. I hope you’ll have the opportunity to read The Valentine Verse or another one of my books (I have a few). Blessings!
