The best thing to do when all your dreams get crushed? Pack your bags and head to London.

Kate Macon has spent her life preparing to be a teacher and six weeks into her dream come true, everything crashes and burns thanks to budget cuts and a hiring freeze. With nothing but bowls of cookie dough and Pride and Prejudice marathons to look forward to, it’s not a hard decision when her grandmother calls and invites her on a trip to London. However, instead of being an escape from reality, London just proves to be a catalyst for bringing out the worst in Kate. All her fears, insecurities and frustration seem to be right in front of everything. And her feisty grandmother, not to mention their quick-witted tour guide, aren’t helping to lift the mood. What could the Lord possibly be doing by causing so much havoc in Kate’s life? When everything seems to be falling apart, could it be Jesus putting things back together – but in a way Kate never could have imagined?

My review

As I was reading I laughed and had to stop and share this quote with my husband. “I like to think I cause people to aspire to caffeine greatness.” This quote resonates with me and my love of coffee.
He laughs and says You laugh every time you read one of her books. I know you’re reading an Erynn Magnum book because of all the laughing you do. Mind the Gap is a wonderful story. Some of the experiences Kate and her Gran have as they navigate London make me laugh. One of the things I love about this book is how normal the characters are. They aren’t perfect. Kate is someone I’d wish to get to know. She’s fun and interesting and relatable. She struggles with worry and trusting the Lord and I can relate.  I really like how Erynn weaved the verse Ps 37- Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. – throughout the story. It may be fiction but we can learn right along with Kate. Gran is just so spunky and I enjoy her commentary. Oliver is such a gentleman but down to earth. I enjoyed his tour guide and all the things they saw. I’ve not been to London and now I’d like to visit.

Mind the Gap was a delightful story to read. It was lighthearted and fun but also thought-provoking.
I definitely recommend this book to family and friends.
