Steampunk: An Art Invitational

Hi Everyone,  I am excited to share with you the latest happnenings at the Washington County Museum!  Their newest summer exhibit Steampunk: An art invitational will be open Thursday, July 12- Thursday, August 30th. This exhibit combines real museum artifacts with the imagination of talented artists from the Tualatin Valley and the Pacific Northwest. I hope you will stop by and see all the amazing and unique pieces in this exhibit. -Becca

But what is steampunk? According to Dictionary.com, Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction and fantasy featuring advanced machines and other technology based onstream power of the 19th century and taking place in a recognizable historical period or fantasy world.

 

 

 

“We are thrilled to bring Steampunk to the Washington County Museum because the genre combines Science Fiction with the Victorian era and is full of creativity and innovation. It’s something that people of all different ages, with different interests, can enjoy and connect to” says the museum’s Executive Director, Pam Vorachek.

Many of the Steampunk items featured will be for sale! A catalog of items being sold will be available at the museum.

Mark your Calenders for these two special Steampunk Public Events!

Kickoff Celebration: July 11th from 5:30-8pm : Photo booth, Tesla electricity show, and DJ Powerless will play old phonographs! Clockwork Rose Tea Room to provide special teas and desserts! Free to members, artists and guests. General public $5 admission.

Steampunk Demonstration Day:  August 11th featured artists will be in the museum activating their creations and sharing stories about their craft. This day will have presentations and activities for the whole family, stay tuned for more details!
