Colonial New England on 5 Shillings a Day by Bill Scheller

Portland Book Review Synopsis:

Colonial New England on 5 Shillings a Day is the essential guide to visiting in the colonies. From Boston to Portsmouth, this guide gives you tips on everything from where to eat to places to see and explore. Some of the highlights of this book are the Red Horse Tavern, Mr. Howe’s flip, Paul Reveres workshop and Long Warf. Whether you’re traveling by stagecoach, by schooner or horseback, this book is the perfect tool for your vacation.

My Review:

This book is a unique one that takes you back to a time far different then the present. Part travel guide, part history this book is sure to entertain you. I found this book to be very informative and entertaining. Some readers may find Colonial New England on 5 Shillings a Day overwhelming with all the information. Since it was written as if you were living back in 1765, the author assumes you would know things such as bathing. I recommend this book to anyone who likes history and wishes to get a glimpse of life in 1765.

I reviewed this book for the Portland Book Review.
