What Inspires You?

What inspires you? That’s a hard question because so many things can inspire you. Anything from someone posting a great tip to an encouraging word.  Something that I have always wanted to do is write books. Not just any books but novels.

Some things that have inspired me to want to write.

My Dad: One thing that I remember is my Dad telling stories. Made up stories.  Traveling in a car for several hours is long especially for kids. It was before built in dvd players and handheld digital devices. To pass the time, my father would tell stories. He would create them as he told the story. One such story was an adventure story about the Fork cliff mountain. I remember sitting there being totally engrossed in the story wondering what would happen next.  Next thing I knew we were at our destination. I only wish it was written down and remembered.

Authors: I really started reading books in 2nd grade. It really wasn’t until 6th grade that I completely fell in love with reading. When you read, you are transported to a different place and time.  It was a great thing. I was so excited about the newest books coming out, and wanted to know everything about them.  Something that i started doing was writing authors. All my favorite authors. 🙂 It wasn’t as easy to reach people as it was today.  I will never forget one of the first authors I wrote. Lee Roddy. He wrote the Ladd Family adventures and the American adventures. His letter back to me started off with … your undated, unaddressed letter finally reached me… and then gave me some tips on writing letters and info about his books.  Since then, I have written over 40 authors and received some wonderful letters back. It meant the world to me. I still have all my letters. I  decided that if I wrote books, I wanted to be the author who took time to write back to a reader because I know how important it is. Today, I am friends with several really good authors on facebook and it’s really neat to hear about their writing, life and goals.

I was thinking about all this the other day when I was telling my son a story. A made up as I go story. He was engrossed in the story and I was whisked back to those days riding in the car & also spending hours of reading books. 🙂 I know how much I enjoy books and if i can share that enjoyment with someone else, it’ll be awesome.

That inspires me. What inspires you?
